PROGRAM:PARROT-RESERVE-MANU
BLANQUILLO-CUSCO-PILCOPATA-ATALAYA-BOCAMANU
5 days and 4 nights
Day1:CUSCO–PAUCARTAMBO-LODGE SAN PEDRO
We will start out from Cusco at 6:00am on a prívate bus for our 7 hour journey. We will travel to the Pisac district, and along the Vilcanota River. Then we will head up to the Colquepata Pass at 4000 masl. .Then it is down to the Paucartambo province passing through the town of Qolquepata and along the Quencomayo River. We will cross the Mapacho River and head up hill again until we reach the Ajcanaco Pass at 3900 masl. From there we can look out over the Amazon. The descent into the cloud forest is sweet on a bike. We will pass through the town of San Pedro at 1700masl, where we can check out the sunset. Often at sunset and at dawn it is possible to see the Cock-of-the-Rock, the Peruvian national bird. At San Pedro we will have a good meal, take it easy, and pass the night at the Lodge.
DAY2:SANPEDRO-PILCOPATA-ATALAYA-DIAMANTE-COMMUNITY
At 5:30am we’ll wake up to go visit the blind where we can hide and watch the birds do their intricate ceremonial dance. Returning to the Lodge, we’ll breakfast at 8:00am. Then it is on to the port of Atalaya passing by Chonta Chaca, Patria, and Pilco Pata. It is a 40 klm. ride that takes a couple of hours by bus. There we will board our motor boat and travel up the Alto Madre de Dios River for 5 hours until we reach the town of Diamante (550masl) where we’ll eat and camp for the night. You could go night fishing if you like, but this is optional.

Day 3 : DIAMANTE-BOCAMANU-RIOMANU-BLANQUILLO-LODGE
We will start the day early at the salt-lick near Diamante, where we can eat breakfast while enjoying the arrival of the brilliantly colored tropical birds. Among others, you will see multi-colored parrots and blue and yellow toucans. Then we’ll hop on the boat for the two hour ride to the confluence of the Alto Madre de Dios River and Manu.River. When they join, the 2 rivers become the Madre de Dios, which is a major tributary of the Amazon. We’ll be able to see snakes and alligators, monkeys and parrots as we travel along the verdant river banks. We will travel up the Manu River for ½ an hour until we reach the spot where we’ll have lunch. Then in the afternoon, we’ll continue up-river, passing the town of Boca Manu. After about 3 hours, we’ll arrive at Blanquillo Lodge, where our people will be waiting for us. At night if you like, we can go out and view the tarántulas .

DAY4:BLANQUILLOLODGE-BOCAMANU-AIRPORT
We will wake up early and board our skiff for the 1 hour ride to Mana Reserve Zone. There we will enter a blind to observe the toucans, parrots, parraquets and macaws at their salt lick as they start their day. The colors are amazing. We will have breakfast while watching the bird life in the blind. At noon we will re-board the boat and go to Cocha Camungo, where we can see river otters, alligators, and another whole host of tropical birds, like passenger parrots, shanshos, and turkeys. We will climb up the special stairs into a tree 12 stories high. Up in the canopy we can see out over the infinite jungle and see more species of birds and monkeys. Hopefully you are a person who enjoys seeing the fascinating, colorful, tropical birds. After lunch we will head back down the Madre de Dios for the 4 hour ride to the Lodge at to the airport, where we’ll rest at the Lodge and get ready to take off early in the morning on our flight to Cusco.

DAY5:BOCA MANU-AIRPORT-CUSCO
After breakfast at 7:00am, we can relax while awaiting our 10:30am flight to Cusco. The flight takes an hour. The take off depends on the cloud cover, and is sometimes delayed by an hour or so.
