QEROS PAUCARTAMBO-IN THEIR ANCESTRAL INCAN HOMES
ANDES MOUNTAINS AND ANDEAN TOWNS TYPICAL OF THE REGION PAUCARTAMBO

DAY1:CUSCO–PAUCARTAMBO(2850masl)
Will pick you up after breakfast at your hotel at 7:00am and we will head out for the province of Paucartambo. It is 110 klick ride from Cusco, and takes about 4 hours over paved and dirt roads. Along the way we will stop at several archeological sites, like the chullpas of Ninamarca, which is a burial site for the pre-Incan Lupaca cultura. When we get to Paucartambo, we’ll have lunch and visit the ” INKAS CHURIN “ Foundation, which has been set up to help talented underpriveledged rural children. They have cabins there where we will stay the night. We’ll visit Huatocto archeological site near town. This is the ruins of the old Incan town of Paucartambo, which is 15 klm. from the modern town. We’ll visit the Church of Our Lady of Carmen, who was crowned by Pope John Paul II in 1986, when he visited Sacsayhuaman, the Plaza de Armas, and other parts of the area.
DAY 2: KALLAKANCHA3500masl.–PAMPAESCALERAYOC4000masl
After breakfast a 7:00am, we will take the hour and 20 minute bus ride to the town of Kallacancha (3500masl). That is where we will get ready to start our trek. We will have llamas to carry our packs, and saddle horses if you care to ride. We will be accompanied by members of the Qeros tribe as we head on up to their community. It is a beautiful hike, through alpine glory, surrounded by high peaks and native wildlife. We will walk 10 klm., which will take us about 7 hours. When we reach the plain of ESCALERAYOC(4000masl), we will set up camp for the night.

DAY 3: ESCALERAYOC pass( 4500masl) - AYLLU MARKACHEA( 3000masl) - QERO CCASA (4000 masl.) campsite :
We will start moving with the first rays of the Sun. After breakfast at 7:00am, we will continue to climb for a couple hours until we reach the ESCALERAYOC PASS at 4500masl. Along with Qeros who will be with us, we will meditate and offer coca
leaves to the apus while we watch the condors and other birds of prey. The pass is magically silent. The sharp black rocks make the hike challenging. The view is unforgettable. Then we will walk down for 2 more hours until we reach the MARCACHEA community at 3000masl. That is where we will eat lunch. The town is in the eyebrow of the jungle, and
there are per-Incan ruins right nearby. After lunch we will head up to the Qeros community of CCASA (40OO masl). That hike takes about 3 hours.
DAY 4: Camp QUEROCCASA(4000masl) (pass 4700 )-AYLLU TANTAÑA4300 masl
Soon after our 7:00am breakfast, we will continue our trek for 2 hours until we reach the QUERO CCASA PASS(4700 masl). From here we can see out over the Amazon jungle in all its splendor. We can see Apu HUAMANLIPA (6000 masl), which is the principle apu of the Qeros. Also visible is the powerful Apu QAWACÑAWI , which is the east and near the 3 Cruces overlook near Paucartambo. ,Next we’ll head down for a couple hours through a virgin valley where people have raised llamas and alpacas From there we can see the actual capital that is on the other side of the Qeros river. From their it is up hill again to the QUERO TOTORANI community ( 4200 masl)> it is a 3 hour hike and we’ll be surrounded by folks who raise llamas and alpacas and who grow native potatoes high up in the mountains. Then it is 3 hours to our campsite at theTANTAÑA community. (4300masl)

DAY5:AYLLU COMMUNITY TANTAÑA4300masl.-PAUCAR-OLLANTAYTAMBO2700 mas
Dawn in the community is marvelous. The light has a mystical tint as we see the smoke rise from the adobe houses, surrounded by mountains and thousands of alpacas. After breakfast we’ll stop by the market where the Indians offer their handicrafts. You’ll see woven artwork: mantas and ponchos and exquisite weavings handmade from llama, alpaca, and vicuña. You can walk around and visit the houses of the local folks, making friends. At around 8:00am, we’ll continue our trek by ascending for 2 hours up to the WILCA KUNKA PASS( 4600 masl), from which point will be able to see all the territory of the Qeros Nation, along with mountain range to the south. After a meditation and offering of coca leaves, you will see the condors flying above and hear the women shouting out to scare them away from the baby alpacas. Then we’ll head down hill for the 3 hour, 14 klm. hike to the highway. We’ll eat lunch and climb aboard our bus for the four hour journey to Ollantaytambo. There we will catch the 8:00pm train to Aguas Calientes, at the base of Machu Picchu. By 10:00pm, we will be ensconced in our hotel, relaxing.

DAY6:MACHUPICCHU-CUSCO
After a 6:00am breakfast, we will take the bus up to the Fortess of Machu Picchu. We can visit Huayna Picchu and tour all the different sectors of this fabulous Inca site along the traditional route. . We will enjoy lunch back in Aguas Calientes, and catch the 4:00pm train back to Cusco. By evening we’ll have you comfortably relaxing in your Cusco hotel.
